Update! As of 2/10:
Ok, as most of you can see, the weather is really not being helpful! Not really helping us make a clear simple decision either way about what kind of race this actually is. So, here is the plan. I know it might seem a little complicated but we are trying to make sure 1) That all participants are safe in challenging conditions, and 2) that we try to keep competition as fair as possible. We made this decision after consulting with each other and with other race directors. This may not be a perfect solution, but if you’re crazy enough to race on snowshoes, you’re crazy enough to make this work!
As of right now, snowshoes are REQUIRED. You absolutely must bring them and you MUST have them with you throughout the race. What does it mean to “have them with you”? That means if you don’t wear them, you must carry them. Either way, you must have them with you AT ALL TIMES. The course will still be slippery with some snow and ice and snowshoes provide traction. If you don’t land in snow, you’ll land in grass. If you’re carrying the snow shoes, you ARE allowed to wear spikes. As long as you are wearing your snowshoes or carrying them, you are qualified to participate. You can also switch between wearing snowshoes and carrying snowshoes mid-race, as long as you always have them on or are carrying them.
And regardless of conditions, the other fun events of Freeze Fest will continue! So, it will be a memorable race and event.
I’m sure you’ll have questions and we’ll do our best to answer them.————————————————-
After taking a break during Covid, The Green is White is back! This time at a new location: The MV Golf and Event Center in Little Falls. Choose from distances of 5K, 10K, or 15K. It will be possible to switch distances during the race. More details on that later. The Center has a restaurant and bar that will be open during the event. The race takes place on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00AM.
Snowshoes are mandatory unless otherwise stated by the race director. Adult snowshoes must be no smaller than 7" wide and 20" long. If there is no snow, the race will be a regular trail race.
All runners who sign up by midnight on January 28, 2023 will be guaranteed a race shirt in their preferred size. After that, shirts MAY be available and no size is guaranteed. The race is $25 if you sign up before February 5. Registration increases to $30 after that. There will be registration the morning of the race. Day-of check in and registration will be open from 9:30AM - 10:45AM.
Course maps will be up soon.
