|Sjögren's ("SHOW-grins") syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own moisture producing glands. The hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and dry mouth, but it is a systemic disease, affecting many organs and can often lead to debilitating fatigue and joint pain. It is one of the most prevalent autoimmune disorders, striking as many as four million Americans.
This next year, the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation is recruiting marathoners for an opportunity to participate in Team Sjögren's for the Nashville Country Music Marathon & Half-Marathon on April 28, 2012. The event offers great entertainment along the route, an amazing health expo, and as well as over 30,000 runners! We are running in honor of the 4,000,000,000 Americans who have Sjögren's.
