New Feature: Search and list races within a certain distance of a city.
The new 'List Races By City Radius' page lists races within a specified distance (radius) of a specified city. It provides a list of the races, as well as a map showing the locations of the cities that the races are in.
The search is NOT limited to the state of the specified city. In other words, if you are searching for races in a city on the border of one state, the race list will contain races in any neighboring state, if they are within the specified distance from the selected city.
The List Races by City Radius page allows you to select how many miles within the specified city you'd like to search: 25, 50, 100, 250 or 500 miles. If you'd like to search within a distance not in that list, and are web savvy, you can edit the Radius parameter in the URL.
In addition to selecting the radius, you can select date options such as Upcoming, Recent, specific month, or specify a date range.
You can also search by special type of race: 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons, ultras, trail, triathlons, duathlons and other.
How to Get There:
From the Races menu (the menu bar at the top of very page), select Find a Race
. That brings you to the map menu
. Click on the state you are interested in finding races for. At the bottom of the page, there is a new Key Cities menu.
The menu will include a handful of key cities for the state you have selected, as well as one city from nearby states.
A Couple Notes of Caution:
1. The distance calculation is based on the coordinates of the city where the race is listed. This is NOT necessarily the location of the start or finish of the race. Check the race's website for the exact location of the start.
2. The distance calculation is a straight line calculation between the 2 cities. Actual driving distance will be longer. The calculation is not smart enough to know if there is a great big lake between the 2 points, or mountains, or other travel obstacles.
