While the weather outside is dreary, it's high time to get ready for the first major race on the CT shoreline for the season with the 18th Annual Madison Exchange Leprechaun 5-Miler (a certified 5 Miler, including our 2 mile Health Walk and Kids Fun Run) on March 21, 2010!!!  The Madison Exchange Club, is a community service organization that seeks to raise awareness, funds and implements programs to combat child abuse.  The race course is as beautiful as it ever was, and we are going to make it even more fun and rewarding for you to be involved again this year.  First, for those who prefer to get their times quicker, we'll be adding digital chip timers for your convenience.  Second, you're getting increased rewards for participating in the race as more sponsors are donating their goods and services for your benefit.  For example, participants could win free chiropractic services from Dr. Keith Mirante of Coastal Chiropractic or a free limited term Swim and Fitness membership to Madison Racquet and Swim Club, among many others.  But perhaps the best 'award' of all, is sharing a beer with friends over a steaming hot bowl of Lenny & Joe's clam chowder at the end of the race!
It takes a Community to PROTECT a child

The Madison Exchange Club’s primary mission is to seek to prevent child abuse -we urgently need your help.  On an annual basis in CT there are tens of thousands reported cases of child abuse, with many more possibly not being reported.  We know from research that the negative state of a family's finances is a risk factor for child abuse, both by physical/emotional and neglect.  In these tougher economic times, we need to do even more to make sure that kids are being raised in a safe environment.  The Madison Exchange Club raises funds to support, in part, shelters and resource centers throughout CT that make a difference in thousands of lives.  To learn more about the Exchange Club's child abuse prevention programming, check out www.madisonexchange.org.

This year we need your help even more.  While the 5 Mile run may be beyond what some can do, the Fitness Walk is accessible to everyone.  We urgently need your help not only to come to the walk and participate, but to help magnify your effort by getting sponsors for your walk or run.  Please print out our sponsor sheet on our website (look for the ‘Champions’ section). Ask your neighbors and friends to support you in the cause against child abuse and enjoy a beautiful and healthy walk or run along Madison's picturesque shoreline while making a real impact for a cause you care about.

There’s Strength in Numbers –form a Team!!!

For the first time in the history the race, you can form a team either with your friends, your business, or your street (or however else you choose...).  Each team member needs to get their own sponsors and will compete against other teams to raise the most funds for the effort.  The team as a whole will get customized t-shirts with your team name on it, so you can wear your Leprechaun 5-Miler gear with pride during the year. Also, Team Captains will get a special embroidered Team Captain baseball cap.
The other great way you can make a difference is by becoming a business sponsor of the Race –see the web site for more details.
We are all excited for the 18th running of the Leprechaun 5-Miler and need your support to make it the biggest and best it can be.  Whether as a Participant, Champion, Sponsor or Volunteer, we welcome your support and look forward to sharing a cold one with you after St. Patrick’s Day!

Please feel free to send this along to anyone you think would have an interest.

Thanks in advance for your support!!!
