I recently started seriously running and I want to be sure that I don't make any mistakes. At 57, my weight, health and state of mind caused me to make some serious changes.

I first started running on my treadmill and decided that I loved it enough to dedicate myself. I want any suggestions on training and pacing that will assist me in being intelligent about this new passion.

I have been using the same FDA approved patches that the US & Japanese Swim teams used in China with significant results for my levels of energy, strength and stamina, but I want to take the next step toward a marathon with as much advise as possible.

Hi Debra,
I am 60 and only do half marathons (about 4 years now) and a bunch of 5K for fun.  My advice is take it slow.  I expand training programs to more weeks before an event.  I don't increase by a mile for the weekend long runs - I increase by 1/2 mile per week.  And I find it is very important to take the days of rest for my body to reconstruct itself.
