Footraces in Wisconsin took place back in the 50s, with a Kenosha area run with a name something like Turkey Day Run. What would morph into the Cudahy 10-mile took place in the early 60s. The Wo Zha Wa half marathon began in the late 60s. a little history: http://www.bluechiptraining.com/wozhawa/WZW_1968.html. The Paavo Nurmi Marathon began in the late sixties, too. Running became more popular by the 70s. By the late 70s, Al's Run came onto the running scene. More Wisconsin running history: http://www.arewenotrunners.com/graffiti
