Another seagull style trip: drop in, grab a marathon, and duck out.
This time, Joey and Abby drove, so Webmaster Bill and I got to be passengers, along for the ride. We made the 11ish hour drive to Huntsville Alabama.
Abby, Joey and I all ran the marathon. This is a runner's run. Run by runners, for runners. Very nicely organized. Strict rules, but delivered respectfully. No iPods. The course was nice, except for that long straight stretch from mile 9 to infinity where we were dead into the wind. Our return trip wound through subdivisions, so we were not treated to the tailwind that hindered us outbound. Bummer.
We found Wisconsin runner Rick Stefanovic at the finish, and met a couple other 50 Sub 4ers too.
After, we made a quick trip to the Rocket and Space Museum, where we concluded that every school child in the area must go on a field trip here, and there isn't much of interest for adults.
We made it about half way home before we were all too tired to continue, and stayed overnight somewhere non-descript in Indiana.
Not every trip is going to be exciting, nor every recap.
Here's the score:
Sub 4 hour marathon states: 25
Marathon states: 29
